Managing Emotions With Yoga

When we get emotional, having self-control and maintaining our awareness can seem difficult if not impossible. But in actuality emotional states are very easy to identify and understand. An essential tool in managing our emotions with yoga is learning about the Five Poisons, the basic categories of negative emotions. Then we can actually change the way we feel by utilizing yoga asana and pranayama remedies to bring about the positive counterparts. Finally we can experience the lightness and clarity that follows which opens the door to our natural state of being – the state of yoga.

When we allow ourselves to be in a truly natural state, without effort we experience love, compassion, equanimity and joy. We deeply connect to our soul, rejoice in the happiness of others, feel inner and outer balance, and our spirit is uplifted and inspired. When we come up against obstacles and challenges, it can stimulate the patterns of our poisonous emotions. We can feel animosity towards others, become attached to things for our happiness, get stuck in habits that don’t help us to grow, or become indifferent or lazy about our growth and purpose in life.
In this workshop we will learn about the five poisonous emotions, how to use yoga asana and pranayama to remedy the negative experience, and cultivate the naturally positive qualities in our being. We will also learn a mantra that purifies negative thoughts and emotions and allows us to be in a clear and balanced state. No matter where we are now in our practice, we can all learn how to stop when we get emotional, check in with ourselves, and work as skillfully as possible to get the results we desire. Liberate your emotions and live a life full of joy and inspiration!

John Ogilvie

John Ogilvie ,the founder and director of Byron Yoga Centre, one of the oldest yoga schools in Australia, established 22 years ago, is coming back to Yoga Tribe!

You will remember John’s smiling face, great sense of humour and pure personality from last year.  This year, we will offer 2 sessions to introduce Purna Yoga, aiming to bring yoga into your daily life.

Part1「Adjustment & corrections and use of props」
Part2「Purna Yoga focused on Backbends」

After the workshops there will be a casual gathering over dinner, where we can talk about your yoga practice!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Part1 "Adjustment & corrections and use of props" 14:30〜16:30
Target:Yoga Teachers, students wishing to deepen their own practice, or students with the desire to become a yoga teacher
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

As you begin to deepen your yoga practice, you might wonder “How I can adjust myself to improve the posture” or “How I can adjust my students when I teach…?”
In this part of the workshop, we will practice some basic postures in depth to learn cautions, contra indications and some detailed points.  We will do some group work to teach each other these postures, in order to cultivate our ability to observe, adapt to the environment, and improve our adjustment techniques. This will deepen our understanding of how correct alignment cal help us to use our body correctly.  We will also introduce the use of props to help and improve the posture as necessary.

This Workshop is recommended for Yoga Teachers, students wishing to deepen their own practice, or students with the desire to become a yoga teacher or know the postures more intimately.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Part2 "Purna Yoga focused on Backbends" 17:00〜19:00
Target:All levels(beginner〜experienced students)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

When you do backbends, you may feel fearful or limit yourself with your thoughts. In this part of the workshop, we will teach you how to overcome your fears and give you practical tools to enable you to practice these backbends safely. We will also introduce useful props to help you to strengthen the body or improve your weak points.

In the class, there are options to choose from, so you could challenge yourself and find yourself doing something more than you think you could do – bringing joy to both your body and mind.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Part3 "Dinner" 19:30〜
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
After the workshop, we will have a casual gathering over dinner, where we can talk about yoga, your life or anything else with John!

■John Ogilvie Profile
JOHN OGILVIE, founder and director of Byron Yoga Centre, (one of the oldest yoga schools in Australia) has been teaching yoga since 1987 and leads the Byron Yoga Centre teacher training courses, which are well known for their high quality.
John Ogilvie is one of those rare people you meet with whom you feel an almost instant heart connection. There is a glint in his eyes that tells of an inner spring of joy, and a hint of boyish cheekiness. His presence is one of yogic lightness that makes you find yourself smiling when you are taking his class. His classes integrate the different yoga styles of Iyengar and Ashtanga, as well as the softer Sivananda and Satyananda practices of yoga and the energy principles of Aikido.
His classes are both challenging and dynamic, and he has a joyful teaching style, laughing all the way through his classes. He hopes that by bringing joy to his students he will encourage them to make yoga a part of their daily life, and is always exploring ways to spread this infectious joy in his students.

■Purna Yoga
Purna, a Sanskrit word meaning 'complete' or 'integrated' and Yoga means 'connect' or 'unite'.
The Purna Yoga style integrates all parts of yoga, not only teaching asanas or postures, but also pranayama to control the breath, meditation and yoga philosophy to develop the student’s personal and social code of ethics, bringing awareness to the coordination of breath and body movement and making yoga a part of their daily life.
